Creatures of the Night: Whip-poor-wills

Spring is an opera, complete with throaty vocals, high pitched vibratos, and an expert cast of creatures, each playing its part in this ancient drama. Creatures of the Night programs provide opportunities to experience the sights and sounds of natural phenomena that often go unnoticed. Honeybee Hive Installation

Join the Bernheim Beekeepers in welcoming 10,000 honeybees to their new home! From the safety of the Wildlife Viewing Room, visitors can watch as the bees are moved from delivery package to hive. Beekeepers will guide visitors through the installation process and provide the fascinating “buzz” about beekeeping efforts at Bernheim. FREE $5 per car weekend environmental impact fee applies for non-members. Program is weather dependent. Participants are encouraged to arrive early, as space fills quickly.

Lunch & Learn: Gardening for Butterflies

Butterfly-friendly gardens include more than colorful flowers full of nectar. That is only part of the story! Learn about planting appropriate host plants for caterpillars and adding other landscape features that will help butterflies flourish. Fe-Fi-Fo-FUN!!! The giants are here for everyone! Your task is to visit all three of Bernheim’s Forest Giants and complete the activity booklet. First Sunday Nature Hike

Join a Volunteer Naturalist for an engaging nature hike on the first Sunday of each month. Registration is not required. Just show up with your curiosity and comfortable walking shoes. Hikes last approximately one hour. All ages welcome. No pets allowed. FREE* *$5 per car weekend fee applies for non-members

Millennium Trail Section Hike

June 1 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Celebrate National Trails Day with Tony Cecil and other Volunteer Naturalists by hiking nine miles of Bernheim's 14-mile Millennium Trail. Much of this trail section is deeply wooded and includes portions of the Jackson-Yoe and Guerilla Hollow trails. Participants should wear sturdy shoes, bring lunch, and pack plenty of water. Due to rough terrain and steep hills, some participants may wish to bring hiking sticks. While the hike includes stops for rest and interpretation, it is open to experienced hikers…

Summer Sky Watch & Star Stories
