ECO Kids Discovery Day: Seeing Green

February 16 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Look close and you will discover mosses, ferns, and lichens thriving in the winter landscape. Kids and their families will have fun finding these green gems and then exploring Discovery Stations and the Hike of the Day during the afternoon. On Your Own Challenge 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Discovery Stations 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Hike of the Day 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Visitor Center FREE EVENT* * $5 per car environmental impact fee for non-members applies.

Winter is arguably the best time to explore Bernheim’s backcountry. Join Volunteer Naturalists for a driving tour deep into the research forest, with frequent stops and short walks along the way. Pack a lunch and water bottle. Bernheim members $20; non-members $30

Conifers, special cone-bearing trees with needle and scale-like leaves, can be found throughout the arboretum. Kids and their families will have fun locating these trees and then exploring Discovery Stations and the Hike of the day during the afternoon. First Sunday Nature Hike

Join a Volunteer Naturalist for an engaging nature hike on the first Sunday of each month. Registration is not required. Just show up with your curiosity and comfortable walking shoes. Hikes last approximately one hour. All ages welcome. No pets allowed. FREE* *$5 per car weekend fee applies for non-members

Bernheim Lunch & Learn: Signs of Spring

March 6 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

White trout-lily in bloom. Although March is often temperamental, signs of spring can be found. Join in the fun of seeking out the first flowers, swollen tree buds, and perhaps even harbingers of spring blooming on a sunny woodland slope. Creatures of the Night: Woodcocks

Experience sights and sounds that often go unnoticed! Journey with Volunteer Naturalists on a driving tour into sections of Bernheim where crepuscular and nocturnal creatures are most active. Bernheim at Night: Full “Crow” Moon Hike

March 20 @ 7:45 pm - 9:45 pm

Experience the mystery of a full moon hike through the late winter landscape. Full Moon Hikes include a walk around Lake Nevin Loop, with plenty of stops to observe the night sky, discuss nocturnal happenings, and consider our cosmic connections. No pets please.
