Celebrate Earth Day at Bernheim – RESTORE is THIS weekend

By Amy Joseph Landon

What better place to celebrate Earth Day than at Bernheim!

The health of the planet and the health of humans go hand in hand. Join us Saturday for RESTORE: Healthy Planet, Healthy You, to take a breath of fresh air, enjoy the budding spring landscape, and experience nature’s healing powers. While you’re here, discover all the ways you can incorporate more sustainable practices in your daily life to help protect the Earth – the only planet we have.

Throughout the day, you’ll have the chance to get outside and walk through some of Bernheim’s most popular attractions. The RESTORE footprint will be a 1-mile path that weaves from the Edible Garden to Playcosystem to Earth Measure to the Sensory Garden and Meditation Trail. Along the way, enjoy drop-in self-care activities, learn from community partners about their sustainable, gardening, and self-care practices, and learn about the plants and animals that call Bernheim home thanks to our conservation work in our 16,140-acre habitat.

Most activities are drop-in, so pop by at any point along your adventure. The path will begin at the Visitor Center – walk as little or as much of it as you’d like!

Stop by the Visitor Center for Adopt a Tree and take home a native sapling that will provide you years of beauty, biodiversity and cleaner air in your yard.

Join Louisville Compost Co-op to learn about healthy soil and composting options. Go Electric – learn about electric vehicles and charging technology with Evolve KY. Louisville Sustainability Council, Solar Energy Solutions, and Icon Solar to learn about Solar Over Louisville. The Bullitt County Extension office will be on hand to help you with all of your native gardening questions.

Celebrate along with Bernheim and partner WestRock, as we cut the ribbon on a new and improved recycling program, made possible by their generous support. Bernheim is not only increasing the amount of items we recycle, but we’re also sharing how you can make a bigger impact at home. Join us at noon at the Visitor Center as we unveil the first phase of this exciting program. WestRock will also be on site to help you better separate your recyclables from your landfill items.
