RESTORING NATURE’S CLASSROOM
Bernheim has partnered with Hazelwood Elementary School, with funding from the Greater Louisville Sierra Club, for an innovative program for fourth graders that includes multiple field trips to Bernheim during the school year. In between field trips, Bernheim educators make several visits to the classroom for additional instruction. The program is temporarily discontinued due to schools being closed under COVID-19 restrictions, but we plan to continue as soon as it is safe to do so and hope to extend the partnership to other schools in the future. To learn more about this program, contact Dan Pascucci.
BULLITT ADVANCED MATH AND SCIENCE (BAMS)
Bernheim’s education team has partnered with Bullitt County high schools’ accelerated math and science program to provide a STEAM learning laboratory. Students in the program carry out individual scientific research projects at Bernheim, which then get showcased for the public at Bernheim’s annual Fe Fi Fo Funfest. If you’re interested in independently creating similar programming at your school and would like to know more about how BAMS students use Bernheim as a research laboratory, contact Dan Pascucci.
YOUTHBUILD
In an exciting new partnership with YouthBuild Louisville’s Summerworks and Urban Conservation Corps programs, Bernheim offers custom-designed work-study programs for underserved youth ages 18-22 interested in horticultural professions. The program provides multidisciplinary nature-based educational curriculum combined with practical work experience, building confidence and skills in trail maintenance and organic food production. The goal is to create new opportunities for participants and increase diversity in public horticulture. To learn more about this partnership, contact Kristin Faurest.
MY BIG LITTLE ADVENTURE
Bernheim is proud to partner with several other great Louisville organizations for My Big Little Adventure, an initiative that gives parents of children 5 and under great ways to read, play, and explore together. Building on the natural curiosity, deep passion, and busy habits of young children, My Big Little Adventure offers a continually updated roadmap of activities, events, and resources designed especially for their families and caregivers.
