CONNECT is Bernheim’s annual summer celebration honoring the relationships of science, nature and creativity. Lake Nevin comes alive with spontaneous art, drum circles, art installations and musical performances from renowned artists along with hands-on art and science activities. There is a stellar line up this year, including the opportunity to see newly created, site inspired work by 2019 Artist in Residence Kathleen Lolley!!
A stop-motion animation teaser created by 2019 Artist in Residence Kathleen Lolley.
Kathleen Lolley, is a painter, mixed-media and collage artist from Louisville, Kentucky whose work explores the connection between nature and the cosmos. Inspired by ancient folk traditions, as well as her environment, Kathleen creates her own visual folk tales for modern times. During her residency at Bernheim, she created a series of visual vignettes incorporating found objects from the natural landscape in the form of stop-motion animation that highlights the interconnection of nature and the human realm.
At this years CONNECT event on Saturday, August 24th (from 6:23pm – 10:23pm) Kathleen will be projecting her nature inspired abstract film set to live music by the band Death Itself. Between music sets, Lolley will be showing the results of her fun and informative stop-motion animation workshop recently taught at Bernheim (see below!). As if that wasn’t enough, Kathleen will be debuting a floating phoenix fire sculpture she built from left over Forest Giants materials on Lake Nevin. The art and installations to experience around Lake Nevin is what makes this event unique. It’s been an honor to work with Kathleen, support her creative vision and have her work on display for Bernheim’s 90th anniversary edition of CONNECT.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see Kathleen’s work The Moving Garden projected at the northern tip of the Lake Nevin Loop in a grouping of beautiful maple trees!!
