Fall Break at the Visitor Center – Isaac’s Café specials 9/30-10/4

By Bernheim

The cistern outside the Visitor Center will be relocated to accommodate a new walk-in refrigerator.

It may be 90 degrees outside, but it is still Fall Break for many students in Kentucky and surrounding states. Due to the hot weather and lack of rain, the leaves have barely started to change. That doesn’t mean that there are no changes to be found at Bernheim, though.

You may notice work going on just outside Isaac’s Café. We are making room for a new walk-in freezer/refrigerator to better store the abundance of our Edible Garden. This way, you will experience the freshness of the garden all year long.

You will also notice changes inside the Visitor Center. A GIANT FOREST has started to grow in the Visitor Center where you will find a huge assortment of “Giant” merchandise to commemorate your visit. We also have new seasonal merchandise arriving daily, with one of a kind gifts, clothing, and educational toys for the whole family.

While you’re here, stop by Isaac’s Café to make lunch part of your Bernheim experience. This week’s Meatless Monday special will feature a chickpea stuffed acorn squash with a side of our garden-fresh green beans. The rest of the week will have you coming back for more with favorites like a BBQ pulled chicken sandwich with creamy coleslaw, special sandwiches, like our Italian melt, and as the weather gets cooler towards the end of the week, watch for our gourmet grilled cheese and cup of soup special.

Celebrate the not-so-changing weather by checking out the cool changes happening at Bernheim. Make the best of your Fall Break visit with the following helpful hints:

  • Avoid the additional traffic by arriving before 11 a.m. or after 3 p.m.
  • It’s HOT out there – be sure to bring plenty of water for everyone in your group, including your four-legged friends.
  • Don’t miss Wednesday’s Nature Concert with Mr. Dan at 1 p.m.
  • Remember – the drought has caused a Bullitt County burn ban. In compliance, Bernheim prohibits the use of grills and smoking on site.
  • Don’t forget – the Butterfly Dome Experience will be here all week, beginning at 9 a.m. each morning. It’s your chance to (gently) handle butterflies while learning all about these magnificent creatures.

We’ll see you on the trails!
