While artificial trees are a popular choice for many households, those who use real pines at Christmas might not know what to do with them once the holiday is over.

Bernheim Arboretum Forest is offering community members a chance to extend the life of their trees by giving them to the forest to “recycle.”

For about two decades, Bernheim has been repurposing discarded Christmas trees by turning them into mulch, which is distributed around different areas.

On average, the program receives about 100 trees a year

The trees will be collected until Jan. 31, and can be dropped off at the front gate entrance.
