Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Artist in Residence Program, a central aspect of our Arts in Nature program. We received a total of 194 submissions from 34 countries including Kenya, Turkey, Vietnam, Australia, Spain, Germany, and many more!
The Bernheim arts team is ecstatic to be working with these artists for the 44th year of the Bernheim residency program.
Edwin Ramirez / Regional Artist in Residence
Edwin Ramirez is a chicano, queer, multimedia artist working and residing in Louisville, Kentucky. Edwin creates wearable sculptural works inspired by the shapes, textures, systems, colors, and cycles of our planet’s biomes and the various flora and fauna that inhabit them.
Edwin has shown their work in several Louisville runway shows and exhibitions such as KMAC couture and Aflora at the Speed. Edwin will be at Bernheim during the summer months to create a couture collection of wearable pieces inspired by nature.
Claire Krüeger / Regional Artist in Residence
Claire Krüeger is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in video, photography, illustration, and fiber arts. She has decades of experience in the zine community and is passionate about community arts, printed matter, and accessible media. She utilizes multimedia to create work incorporating geology and botany with a thematic focus on landscape and place.
Claire has proposed creating knitted and woven scenes from Bernheim vistas and releasing the patterns and dye plant recipes to the community so that others can recreate her knitted works. She plans to be at Bernheim in the summer and fall.
Michele Pollock / Arts in Nature Artist in Residence
Michele Pollock, an Indiana-based artist, combines her love of paper and stitching to express her fascination with the natural world. Inspired most recently by her diagnosis with Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease that makes it difficult to do many things, she proposes naturally dyed and stitched paper and possibly book-bound works exploring the ideas of chronic illness and nature as a healing experience.
Michele will be at Bernheim in the fall and will be participating in this year’s COLORFEST event.
Lili(ana) / Environmental Artist in Residence
Lili(ana) is a multidisciplinary artist currently living and working in South Florida. Her project: “Fore(st)sight” is a community-engaged happenings + installation that ponders on the future of forests, through work created with repurposed junk mail. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions locally and internationally.
Lili(ana) proposes to continue her project Fore(st)sight at Bernheim through a community-engaged installation. She plans on being at Bernheim this fall and participating in this year’s COLORFEST event.
