When I think of August, I think of tomatoes. Gardens are heavy with a tangle of fruit laden vines of possibilities. I can’t think of a more versatile summer crop. Add peppers, onions, cilantro, and lime, and you have an instant fiesta. Perhaps add some fresh basil and balsamic vinegar to make the perfect bruschetta. Even the smallest of gardens typically has a tomato plant or two to ensure the taste of summer is always within reach.
At Isaac’s Café, we are fortunate to have a variety of heirloom tomatoes, like this Hungarian Heart, just steps away in the Edible Garden. Come taste the difference for yourself by adding a slice of summer to any of our sandwiches.
This week’s special: ham and swiss sandwich (grilled or dressed with lettuce and tomato), with tomato and cucumber salad, $5.95
