To Plant a Garden is to Believe in Tomorrow: Isaac's Café Specials, October 31-November 4

By Kathy Hart

edibleGard_lettuceThe late Audrey Hepburn once said, “to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” This thought came to mind as I led a tour of the Edible Garden this past Friday evening.  I love talking about what’s planted and what the garden has in store for us in the coming months.  Many were amazed at the diversity of life beginning to push its way through the soil so late in October and were even more amazed that the fall garden would continue to produce well into December.

The ability of the horticulture staff to see the possibilities in the Edible Garden far beyond what most would consider the “growing season” takes not only their vast knowledge of plants, soil and cultivation, but also belief that their efforts will be rewarded.

Isaac’s Café and our visitors are the beneficiary of the belief that the fall garden will bring forth an abundance of broccoli, cauliflower, kale, hearty greens  and so much more.  Watch in the coming months for soups and sides dishes showcasing the wonders of the fall garden and perhaps it will remind you that it all started with a gardener that believed in tomorrow.

Our $6.95 special this week will be a local favorite, the Rattler.  A one of a kind sandwich, featuring Pop’s Pepper Patch pickles, Rattlesnake Hill Farm‘s garlic mustard, black forest ham and smoked gouda on wheatberry bread and your choice of tea or lemonade.  Try a side of our winter kale slaw for just $1.59!

Please note –  Isaac’s Café will begin our winter hours this week, November 1st.  We will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
