SONICBernheim returns with Hunter’s Moon

By bernheim

Visitors are invited to the forest on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for SONICBernheim: Hunter’s Moon; an evening of lecture and performance exploring the relationships between sound, music and nature.

“Bernheim strives to build meaningful connections with nature through the visual and performing arts,” said Claude Stephens, Bernheim’s Facilitator of Outreach and Regenerative Design. “With SONICBernheim, we provide opportunities for people to expand their thinking about how they connect to their world through sound.”

This outdoor performance takes place under the beautiful full October “hunter’s moon,” which is the full moon closest to the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere.

  • Internationally-renowned ethnomusicologist Steven Feld will speak on topics spanning his 40-year career.

  • Chicago-based sound artist Stephan Moore will present a site-specific sound installation.

  • Louisville’s own Orchestra Enigmatic will perform a program of chamber works inspired by nature.

The event will begin at the Education Center. Chairs, blankets, flashlights, and picnics are welcome, but no alcohol will be permitted. Every effort will be made to accommodate attendees with mobility restrictions.

The cost is $5 for Bernheim and Louisville Public Media members and $10 for non-members.

In conjunction with this event, the Speed Cinema at the Speed Museum will be showing Steven Feld’s film “Voices of the Rainforest” the day prior, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. The movie is free for Bernheim and Louisville Public Media members and $5 for all others.

Louisville-based musicians Sara Louise Callaway and Aaron Rosenblum curate all SONICBernheim events.

Stephens thanked SONICBernheim corporate sponsor Beam Suntory and media sponsor Louisville Public Media for their support to this unique and enriching program series.
