Kentucky is the home to 15 different bat species, eight of which can be found at Bernheim. Using a bat meter is a non-invasive way of sampling and identifying bat species by recording an identifying the different sounds that each species makes. Bernheim is currently using the bat meter to obtain baseline information about the bat populations that live in the forest. In the future, this information will be used to monitor the bat populations around Bernheim and see how they may be affected by threats such as the White Nose Syndrome.
