Meet our new Forest Giant family with artist, Thomas Dambo

By Bernheim

In conjunction with ECO Kids Discovery Day on Saturday, March 16, Forest Giants in a Giant Forest artist, Thomas Dambo, will be giving a lecture about his work and his mission of sustainability.

Join us at 3 p.m. in the Sassafras Room inside the Visitor Center. The lecture will be free, but seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. The $5 per car environmental impact fee still applies for non-members.

As part of Bernheim’s 90th Anniversary, renowned Danish artist Thomas Dambo is creating three Forest Giants – larger than life sculptures made from recycled and repurposed materials which otherwise would be thrown away. These whimsical creations demonstrate that trash and waste can be valuable resources, and Dambo hopes they will inspire people to not only recycle, but to also think more deeply about the impact that our lifestyle choices have on the planet.

The three Forest Giants are a family of a mother, son, and daughter. Located throughout the Arboretum, the family is expected to ‘live’ at Bernheim for at least three years.

Dambo is at Bernheim as part of its Sited@Bernheim program, which generates site-specific art projects intended to explore our relationship with nature through the lens of art. These Forest Giants will provide fun photo opportunities, programs, and more.
