This weekend is overflowing with wonderful programs and great chances to shop for the holidays. Join us for Bernheim’s Holiday Open House from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 7. The Open House is a great way to buy local for the holidays. It will feature local artists, local foods, nature related toys, books, home décor and live holiday music by Casey Hammett. Apparel for adults and children, handmade jewelry, gifts for outdoor enthusiasts, handmade walking sticks, birdhouses and many other unique items for your favorite nature lover will be available. The member discount, normally 10 percent, will be 20 percent for the open house.
And while you’re shopping the kids can take part in ECO Kids Discovery Day. This Saturday is dubbed the Gifts of the Standing People. Participants will have fun using tree treasures to make holiday ornaments through the On Your Own Challenge from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Discovery stations staffed by volunteer naturalists will be set up from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center and a Hike of the Day will leave from the Visitor Center at 2:00p.m. All ECO Kids Discover Day are available at no cost.
There is also still space left for the Smart Gardens and Landscapes: Wreaths and Holiday Decorating with Nature, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Research Center. Participants will learn how to use the bounty of the season to create wreaths, swags, kissing balls, and more. All materials will be collected from Bernheim, and supplies and tools will be provided. Registration and payment are due by 4 p.m. on the day prior to the start of the program; call (502) 955-8512. Bernheim members $40, Non-members $50.
