Garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata) is an invasive plant found along stream sides and flood plains in Bernheim Forest. Ongoing efforts by the Natural Areas crew to stop the spread of this plant are making a difference. This species quickly out competes native spring wildflowers and alters forest understory dynamics. The goal is to keep this aggressive invasive plant from spreading into the pristine sections of Bernheim Forest found back in the hollows. In doing so, we are ensuring spring wildflowers and healthy forests for generations to come.
