I can’t remember ever hearing anyone say that they did not like October. What’s not to love? It’s all of our favorite things packed into one glorious month. For some, it’s the fall foliage painting the hillsides, the crisp air that signals sweater weather, warm mugs of hot cider or cocoa, or the anticipation of Halloween with all the fun that goes with it. For me, it’s the official beginning of soup season. Now don’t get me wrong, I could eat soup every day of the year but the slight chill in the air gives me permission to go just a bit soup crazy.
Like many of you, I have special memories associated with certain soups. As a child, the comfort of a bowl of great northern bean soup with cornbread felt like a hug. My mom would soak the beans overnight so my anticipation would start long before that first spoonful. Think about your favorite soup, what made it special to you and is it something you make for yourself or your family today.
Soup has a way of bringing people together in a way that perhaps no other food can. I have always loved the story of stone soup. Folks bringing what they have, sharing with others, and enjoying the bounty together is the perfect way to start off October.
Isaac’s Café $6.95 special October 3rd-7th: SOUP! A bowl of soup and half sandwich (choose from half Nutty Bird or Rattler or full grilled cheese). Our soups change daily so give us a call to see what’s cooking!
