Join us for the return of our ever-popular night programs, starting with Courtship Flights of the Timberdoodle on March 2, March 22, and March 29, where you could witness the mesmerizing nighttime courtship behavior of the American woodcock. Starting with a quiet call, the male woodcock’s famous sky-dance brings him fluttering high into the air, making a whistling sound with their feathers, before spiraling back down. Don’t miss our first full moon guided hike of the year, the Full Crow Moon Night Hike on March 25, as we explore Bernheim’s landscapes under the enchanting glow of the moon. Our night programs fill up fast, so you’ll want to plan ahead! 

If you’re eager to embrace the signs of spring, join Volunteer Naturalists Jim and Karen Scout for Birding for Beginners on March 23. You’ll learn the basics and be ready for Kentucky’s phenomenal spring migration. Don’t have your own binoculars? Jim and Karen will loan you a pair and teach you some quick tricks to master them! Also, don’t miss your chance on March 24 to hike along Wilson Creek, only accessible to visitors with a guide. Meet our Volunteer Naturalists for this Trail Discovery Hike at the Education Center Silos to catch a van ride through Bernheim’s backroads to the secluded Wilson Creek area. This moderately easy 2-mile hike should provide a chance to see early spring wildflowers!
