ColorFest: Where Pumpkins Roll and Fly

By Amy Joseph Landon

ColorFest13B - 029ColorFest, Bernheim’s annual celebration of fall, is this weekend – October 18-19.  It’s 2 days of affordable family fun surrounded by fall’s spectacular beauty with hands-on nature activities, great food, distinctive crafts by Kentucky artists, a mud pie kitchen, a hay maze, live music and many more autumn activities. New this year is the Pumpkin Launch where participants will have the opportunity to see just how far their pumpkins can fly into a field where the fruit will be left to decompose and create next year’s pumpkin patch (just $2 per pumpkin or 3 for $5).

Families will also be able to learn about bees, purple martins and other wildlife while relaxing and enjoying the striking colors of fall on a hayride ($2 per person). ColorFest is from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday and noon – 5 p.m. Sunday. This year’s festivities will be located throughout the Visitor Center and Edible Garden to make it more convenient for visitors.

Members free; $5 per car for non-members,  so load up that car and head out Bernheim.
