Can't wait for Asparagus! – Isaac's Cafe Special March 7 – 11

By Kathy Hart

lunch specialMy mother always said, “patience is a virtue”.  She certainly did not coin the phrase but this was her go-to response whenever there was wait time for something good to happen.  When it comes to asparagus, Asparagus officianalis Liliaceae Family, patience truly is a virtue. Asparagus greets us in early spring but may take 2 to 3 years to get started and produce, so patience is needed, but is so worth the wait. I am so happy that the designers of the Edible Garden had the forethought to plant an asparagus bed.

This being the 3rd spring for our asparagus, harvesting is only a few weeks away.  But I just couldn’t abide by mom’s advice when I saw some tender asparagus for sale at a local grocer.  Asparagus soup is on the menu this week as preview of what’s to come.  And that’s just the beginning of the deliciousness you’ll experience this week.  Details are below:

Weekly Special:  East Meets West Sandwich, inspired by the Asian greens from our greenhouse. We start with Breadwork’s ciabatta roll slathered with our own Asian BBQ mayo, stacked with black forest ham, mozzarella cheese, sweet onions, and those amazing baby greens all pressed to sizzling perfection on the panini grill.  Served with a small Asian greens salad and sesame dressing for just $5.95!

Fresh made soups $3.95 per bowl and $2.95 per cup.  Made fresh daily.  Get the asparagus soup while it lasts!

And while you are here, take a stroll to the Edible Garden and see if you can spot the elusive green crowns pushing their way into the sunshine.
