Calling all Art-Loving Volunteers!

By Bernheim

Justin Roberts and Josephine Sculpture Park founder Melanie VanHouten outside of “Sounds of a Whippoorwill – Josephine”.

Learn the art of willow sculpture, meet interesting people and experience the fun of helping to create an exciting new art installation at Bernheim!

2019 Regional Artist in Residence Justin Roberts is a Kentucky Crafted Artist from Murray, specializing in the rare folk art of bent-wood willow furniture. Roberts plans to create a conceptual, environmentally sound, social, eco-land-art installation made from bent willow branches that connects its audience with the natural world through an interactive and multi-sensory experience.

“Sounds of a Whippoorwill – Bernheim” is meant to bring awareness to the eastern whip-poor-will, whose environment is continually encroached upon by invasive plant species. Justin intends to reveal this installation at our 2019 CONNECT, scheduled Saturday August 24th.  This installation at Bernheim will be one of two “Sounds of a Whippoorwill” works Roberts will construct in the region. The other of those installations is in the final days of completion at the Josephine Sculpture Park in Frankfort.

Justin will arrive on August 1st and shifts for volunteering will start on Monday August 5th. There will be two shifts daily, Monday through Saturday from 9:00 – 12:00 and 1:00 – 4:00, until Saturday August 24th.  Ideally it would be great to have 4 – 5 people per shift.

(There may also opportunities to participate in advance of the project in collecting materials. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in this prep work.)
