Bernheim Under Threat Roadshows coming to E’Town

By Andrew Berry

Informative meetings aimed at educating the public about threats to conservation land

Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is bringing its “Bernheim Under Threat Roadshow” to Elizabethtown.

The 16,000-plus-acre forest is hosting a series of roadshows to help people understand the imminent threats that are being posed to this pristine and protected land. An LG&E natural gas pipeline and a proposed Interstate 65-71 Regional Connector threaten the integrity of Bernheim Forest. This proposed seizure of conservation land ignores easements that have been put in place to protect the biologically diverse land. These threats, should they become a reality, will have an irreversible impact on Bernheim’s wildlife, clean air and water, visitors, and the quality of life throughout the surrounding communities.

To help eliminate these threats, Bernheim needs the support of the general public. Bernheim Under Threat Roadshows are dedicated to educating residents in nearby communities about the threats Bernheim faces and how the community can take immediate actions to save the forest. More information can be found at ForestUnderThreat.com.

Bernheim’s quest to save its land is garnering support from higher offices as well. Kentucky’s Attorney General Andy Beshear announced last month that his Office of Rate Intervention filed a motion to intervene and expand the scope of a complaint case before the state’s Public Service Commission (PSC). Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest brought the complaint case against LG&E over concerns surrounding its Bullitt County natural gas pipeline.

For those who would like to learn more, there are several upcoming opportunities to attend a nearby roadshow, and join the fight to #SaveBernheim.
