CLERMONT, KY. Kentucky’s Bernheim Forest has a new ambassador whose role includes working with young adults in the Louisville area to try to foster a love of nature.
The Bernheim field ambassador, Kenyetta Johnson, will work there in multiple departments, WLKY-TV reported. The position is part of Bernheim’s Youth Development in Nature Initiative, which works to build diversity and inclusion at the forest.
“Kenyetta will play a key role in helping Bernheim encourage and inspire young adults to consider horticulture, nature education and other green jobs as viable career choices,” Director of Education Kristin Faurest said.
Johnson said one of her long-term goals is to provide an environmental education program for young adults with lower incomes. “My focal areas within the environmental sector are food and reducing waste, global climate change and its effects on people, and urban heat islands,” she said.
Brown-Forman Foundation and the Firefly Scientists Foundation provided a grant that was used to create the position.
