Bernheim Expert Staff Speaks at Carnegie Center in Conjuction with Exhibit

By Amy Joseph Landon

In conjunction with the exhibit, Bernheim: A Natural Muse, The Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany will be hosting two events featuring members of Bernheim staff. On Thursday, March 10, 2016, 6-7:30 p.m., Martha Slaughter, Bernheim’s Visual Arts Coordinator will be giving a talk titled, “A Natural Muse: Challenging Notions of Art”, which will explore highlights of the thirty-five years of Bernheim’s Artist in Residence program, as well as other site specific projects that have taken place at Bernheim. She will discuss how the program fits in to the “bigger ideas” that are at play at Bernheim as well as some of the delightful surprises that take place within many of the projects.

Bernheim Executive Director, Dr. Mark Wourms, will be the featured speaker at the Carnegie Center’s March Lunch & Learn program on March 15, 2015, noon-1 p.m. He will present the program “Held in Trust: A Legacy of Protected Land”, as part of the Carnegie Center’s Lunch & Learn series. Through this visually-rich presentation, Dr. Wourms will explore the legacy of Isaac Wolfe Bernheim and his belief in the restorative power of nature, and how Bernheim’s mission of “Connecting People with Nature” is influenced by that legacy. Bernheim’s numerous and creative approaches to wildlife conservation, land protection, ecological science and the celebration of the joy of nature, both at Bernheim Forest and throughout the region, makes it one of the regional leaders in ecological stewardship and a popular destination for hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Participants can bring a lunch, drinks are provided.

Both of these programs are free and open to the public, but registration is appreciated (to register, please click HERE to email Delesha Thomas at the Carnegie Center, or call 812-944-7336).

The Carnegie Center’s current art exhibit, Bernheim: A Natural Muse, is presented in partnership with Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest and celebrates 35 years of Bernheim’s artist in residence program. Bernheim: A Natural Muse is on display through April 9, 2016.
