Bernheim’s mission to connect people with nature extends far beyond the gates of Bernheim. Some days it’s maintaining a green roof in Louisville. Other days, it’s participating in community events and education programs. And this week it was along Interstate-65. That’s right. Bernheim horticulturalists, staff and volunteers spent a cold Thursday morning planting hundreds of trees at north and south bound off-ramps at exit 112.
Bernheim is a partner in this beautification project that was spearheaded by the Bullitt County Tourism. “Beautiful landscapes filled with Kentucky native trees will serve as an invitation to explore all of the treasures at the Clermont exit,” said Dr. Mark Wourms, Bernheim’s executive director. “We are proud to be a part of this initiative and offer some ‘natural’ inspiration whether you’re exiting or just driving by.”
