90th Anniversary Valentine Dinner at Bernheim

By Amy Joseph Landon

Re-live the Roaring Twenties on Valentine’s Day this year at Bernheim.

The Valentine Dinner at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest has always been a special and romantic occasion, but this year commemorates 90 years since Bernheim was established in the 1920s.

The 90thAnniversary Valentine Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 14, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. features a candlelit dinner for couples in Bernheim’s beautiful glass Visitor Center, creating an enchanting nighttime setting in the woods. The evening also includes a cash bar, as well as enough music and dancing to please The Great Gatsby himself. Period dress is optional, and flappers and non-flappers alike will receive a commemorative 90thAnniversary wine glass.

Those interested are encouraged to make their reservations early, as space is limited. Call (502) 215-7159 to register or get more information. Payment by credit card or check is required by Friday, Feb. 9. The cost is $150 per couple for Bernheim members and $175 per couple for non-members.

The Valentine Dinner is just one part of the yearlong celebration of the 90th anniversary of Bernheim’s founding. In 1929, Isaac Wolfe Bernheim purchased the original 13,300 acres and created the Isaac W. Bernheim Foundation to protect the land. Now more than 16,000 acres, Mr. Bernheim’s visionary act remains perhaps the single largest private gift to conservation and environmental education in the history of Kentucky. Other related anniversary experiences include the 90thAnniversary Forest Tours, coming up in March, #MyBernheimStory, and a GIANT surprise coming this Spring.
