Kick off June at Bernheim!

The summer has finally arrived! Bernheim is kicking Hike Bike Trail 12 - 047off June with a weekend full of special events, including the Visitor Center Grand Re-opening, National Trails Day and Family Fishing Days. Join Bernheim on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, to take part in the celebrations!

Visitor Center Grand Re-Opening

Celebrate the Visitor Center’s 10-year anniversary with great food, music and children’s activities on Saturday, June 3, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. As Kentucky’s first LEED® platinum building, the event will honor the past decade of the Visitor Center’s nature-inspired build that has helped teach thousands of visitors about sustainable design. You will also have the chance to view Bernheim’s updated gift shop design with new merchandise and dine in the newly expanded Isaac’s Café.

National Trails Day

Saturday, June 3, also marks National Trails Day, and with over 40 miles of trails, there is a hike for everyone. You’re invited to come hike one of our many trails on your own or take part in National Trails Day events, including:

    • Millennium Trail Half-Hike

Experienced hikers are invited to join Bernheim at 9 a.m. to participate in the Millennium Trail Half-Hike, Bernheim’s longest and most rigorous trail. Bernheim Volunteer Naturalists will lead the group through half of the 13.75-mile trek.

    • ECO Kids Discovery Day: National Trails Day Celebration

Bring the kiddos to a special ECO Kids Discovery Day celebrating National Trails Day from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Families will have fun strolling through the arboretum and forest followed by hands-on Discovery Stations in the afternoon.

    • Pollywog Play Party

Bernheim’s youngest visitors are invited to participate in Take a Hike at the Pollywog Play Party from 10:30 a.m. – noon at the Education Center. Early learners (infants to five-year-olds) will have fun exploring hiking, camping and the wonderful world of outdoor recreation through a song and story circle, nature-based adventures and a variety of art, science and play activities.

Family Fishing Days

If that’s not enough activity for the weekend, June 3 also kicks off Bernheim’s two-day Family Fishing Days held in conjunction with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Free Fishing Days when no license is required. You’re invited to cast a line in Bernheim’s Mac’s Lake and Lake Nevin on Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4, anytime from 7 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.

We look forward kicking off the summer months with you this June. See you soon!
