Bernheim will be abuzz on September 21, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. with all sorts of fun as we explore insects and their relatives. Celebrate our six and eight-legged friends with the Parade of Bugs, Bug Safaris, Insect Zoo, and much more!
Bugfest shows our appreciation for the role of insects in our lives and the essential ecological services the insects and their relatives provide.
Activities
- Meet Kevin Wiener, the creator of All Bugs Go to Kevin, along with his bug friends!
- Embark on a Bug Safari offered at various times throughout the day.
- Enjoy a lively Bug Concert with Mr. Dan.
- Insect Zoo: Turn your fears into fascination by meeting native insects and invertebrates.
- Get creative with bug-themed crafts.
- Nature Discovery Stations: Spark curiosity and wonder with hands-on exploration.
- Enjoy a “buggy” storytime in the Edible Garden.

- Idlewild Butterfly Farm and Insectarium
- The Foundation for Ohio River Education
- University of Kentucky Entomologist, Seth Spinner
- Dress up as your favorite critter and march in the Bug Parade at 1:30 p.m.
- Learn about aquatic insects with Bernheim biologist, Kelly Vowels.
- Meet Michele Pollock, our 2024 Artist in Residence, and explore her bug-inspired artwork.
