Be Part of the Art at CONNECT 2022

By Hannah Coleman-Zaitzeff

Bernheim is calling for volunteers for the upcoming CONNECT event, taking place Saturday, September 10 from 3:58 – 9:58 p.m.

CONNECT is Bernheim’s annual summer celebration honoring the relationships of science, nature, and creativity. Lake Nevin comes alive with spontaneous art, drum circles, light sculptures, and musical performances from regional artists, along with hands-on art and science activities. Art is a GIANT part of each and every CONNECT event!

This year, 2022 Artist in Residence Sonja Hinrichsen, an environmental artist who creates large-scale outdoor ephemeral experiences with community volunteers, will be here specially for the event. While she is most known for her community participatory “Snow Drawings”, she has an expansive history of community-engaged work. The Arts in Nature team is excited to welcome her this summer as she continues formulating ideas for the event! Stay tuned for more exciting information as it develops.

We are calling for volunteers to work with artists, like Sonja, to prepare for the event, possibly participate in community art creation, and overall support the Arts in Nature team as we get everything in place before the event.

If you’re interested in volunteering for this unique engagement experience, please contact Arts in Nature Assistant Hannah Coleman-Zaitzeff via email.

Hinrichsen will use her “Snow Drawings” as a jump-off point for an environmental social engagement project that does not require snow, but equally relies on community engagement and on the symbiosis of outdoor experience, meditation and art-making. She plans to do something BIG and collaborative for CONNECT on Saturday, September 10!
