What Does Summer Taste Like to You: Isaac’s Café Specials, July 31 – August 4

I remember wandering in my family’s garden as a child, eating fresh peas right from the pod, shucking an ear of corn and enjoying that sweet burst of flavor in each uncooked bite and popping cherry tomatoes into my mouth like candy as I walked between the rows.  That’s what summer tastes like to me.

As I was harvesting from the Edible Garden, I was delighted when I encountered a family with two young sisters exploring the raised beds. I heard squeals of delight as they discovered the fairy garden and then excited oohs and aahs as they noticed the different colors of cherry tomatoes.  The girls ran over to me with a whirl of questions about these tomatoes.  I gave them a sample of each from my basket.  They took the challenge of describing the differences in taste very seriously.  They both admitted that they had never had tomatoes that tasted this good before.  The taste of vegetables right from the garden is truly one of summer’s greatest gifts.

You may not have a garden at home to capture the taste of Kentucky summer but you can stop by Isaac’s Café and get nearly as close.  We serve the bounty of the Edible Garden every day in our fresh made soups, salads, sides and specials.

This week’s special:  Meatless Monday as well as the rest of the week will feature our newest menu item, replacing our Baked Falafel Pita.  Introducing  our “Chickpea” Chick’n salad sandwich or choose our house made Pimento Cheese Sandwich, side of our Edible Garden Summer Salad (heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers and onions in a light, slightly sweet, vinegar marinade) and your choice of tea or lemonade for just $6.95..  Stop in and get your taste of summer today!
