RUX at CONNECT Artist Spotlight: Kevin Howard

Art, Music and Fun are synonymous with CONNECT at Bernheim.  This year is no different as Billy Goat Strut Revue and kRi Majesty take to the stage.  Our recent partnership with the Kentucky Rural-Urban Exhange (RUX) will bring new sounds of Kentucky to CONNECT with performances from artists highlighted in this blog series.  These artists are a perfect match for one of the state’s most unique events.

Kevin Howard photoKevin Howard from Letcher County, Kentucky is a singer, banjo player and guitarist. His repertoire is comprised of the old-time tunes, hymns and banjo ballads of east Kentucky and influenced by George Gibson, Buell Kasee, Rufus Crisp and Doc Boggs. His first solo recording will be released by June Appal Records in 2016. Kevin has served as teaching assistant and instructor at the Cowan Creek Mountain Music School and we are excited that he is stepping up to lead the school this year as the Artistic Director. Kevin also teaches banjo in Passing the Pick and Bow, Appalshop’s after-school music program in Letcher and Knott Counties. Kevin is committed to creating a seamless music education program which allows east Kentucky kids to embrace their heritage.
