You're Invited — Edible Garden Grand Opening

By Amy Joseph Landon

peaPlantin (1)Edible Garden. We can’t wait for you to experience this four-acre site just across from our Visitors Center.

The Edible Garden will help us connect people with nature via the country’s most popular pastime– Gardening. The ribbon cutting and grand opening is being held in conjunction with BloomFest, Bernheim’s annual celebration of spring.

Garden faeries, live music, new public art, garden short topics, a farmers market, craft and food vendors, and a whole host of children’s activities will be a part of the opening.

The Edible Garden is also an applicant to the Living Building Challenge (LBC), considered the most rigorous sustainable design standards in the world. LBC criteria focus on regenerative design. While sustainable building aims to leave no impact on the environment, regenerative design is building with the intent to help improve the natural environment and make it healthier.

“Bernheim’s Edible Garden will serve as a gateway to a deeper understanding of nature,” said Dr. Mark Wourms, Bernheim’s executive director. “The garden will be a place to explore not just gardening but art, science, math, ecology and the principles of regenerative design.”

BloomFest and our Spring Plant Sale runs from 9am – 4pm. Join us for the Edible Garden Ribbon Cutting at 10:30am and the Garden Faerie Parade on 1:30pm.

And if you can’t make it out Saturday, be sure to stop by the Edible Garden on your next visit. We look forward to seeing you!
