We are just over two weeks away from Bernheim’s Big Tree Hug Challenge and we need you to participate! Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 4 and head to Bernheim to help us break the Guinness World Record for the most people hugging trees at the same time.

To break the record, we need at least 1,201 tree huggers, but we hope to have an upwards of 3,000 people join us to not only break the record, but to hold a title for years to come. South Korea holds the current record.

The tree hug will be a celebration of the role trees play in our lives and will include a full afternoon of fun tree-themed activities from noon – 4 p.m. along with music and food vendors.

The actual tree hug takes place at 2:30 p.m. Huggers are asked to arrive no later than 1:30 to be assigned their tree and get in place for the official count.

Pre-registration at bernheimtreehug.org is encouraged. There is no cost to attend, but donations will be welcome.

Feel free to connect with us via social media using the hashtag #bernheimtreehug and follow a newly established twitter handle @treesthattweet.

The Bernheim Big Tree Hug Challenge is being held in conjunction with the traveling exhibit Vanishing Acts: Trees Under Threat on display at Bernheim through July 5.
The Morton Arboretum produced the exhibit which shines a spotlight on the plight of trees today and how many species are threatened with extinction, much like the animals whose habitat they provide.

LG&E-KU is the event’s corporate sponsor and WHAS 11 is the official television media partner. Additional sponsors include the Louisville Water Company, Bullitt County Tourism, and Louisville Public Media.

We’ll see you on June 4th!
