We’re thrilled to welcome poet D. A. Powell as our Writer in Residence at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. Powell is currently on site at Bernheim and will be residing here until November 2.
Powell is the author of five collections, including Useless Landscape, or A Guide for Boys which received the National Book Critics Circle Award in poetry. His honors include the Kingsley Tufts Prize in Poetry and an Arts & Letters Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts & Letters, as well as fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Critic Stephen Burt, writing in the New York Times, said of Powell “No accessible poet of his generation is half as original, and no poet as original is this accessible.”
Powell will give a free reading at Bernheim’s Visitor Center, at Bernheim, October 25 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. Click here for more information on the event.
The Writer in Residence program is in its third year. Together with our community partners Sarabande Books and the Baltic Writing Residency, we bring exemplary writers to Kentucky who stay in artist’s quarters on the grounds of Bernheim’s idyllic nature preserve.
