BugFest at Bernheim is Saturday, September 20
Discover insects and their relatives at this fun, family event
Bernheim Forest and Arboretum will come alive with buzz and excitement at BugFest on Saturday, September 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This fun, family-friendly festival will be filled with activities to explore insects and their relatives. BugFest offers a unique opportunity to discover the important role insects play in our lives and the vital ecological services they provide.
“BugFest is my favorite event at Bernheim,” explained Wren Smith, Interpretive Programs Manager at Bernheim. “With a blend of educational activities and fun experiences, attendees will leave with a newfound respect for these fascinating creatures.”
Highlights of BugFest include the nature discovery stations, an Insect Zoo, bug-themed crafts, live music with Mr. Dan, Insect Safaris and the Bug Parade.
“One of my favorite events at BugFest is the Bug Parade,” stated Lynette Cox, Director of Marketing and Communications. “Children dress up in their wings and masks borrowed from our costume tent and participate in the parade.”
Specials guests at the event include Idlewild Butterfly Farm, Kevin Wiener from All Bugs Go to Kevin, Blake Newton, entomologist at the University of Kentucky, and the Foundation for Ohio River Education.
Bernheim’s Fall Plant Sale is being held outside the Visitor Center in conjunction with BugFest. Bernheim’s horticulture team will be offering a variety of trees, shrubs and perennials. These native pollinator plants will provide seasonal color and habitat support for butterflies, bees and birds for years to come. Members of the horticulture team at Bernheim will be on-hand to answer questions and offer advice on installing and maintaining your selections.
