Ambo Dance Theatre

Under the direction of Jade Frost, Ambo Dance Theatre will bring the path around Lake Nevin to life with spontaneous, improvised dance performances. Ambo interacts with Bernheim’s natural landscape, drawing inspiration from the patterns and beauty of the environment and incorporating them into their movements. Their performances reflect the idea that “fleeting moments of beauty and synchronicity mirror our experience in nature.”

Lightning Buds by Susan Brooks

Susan Brooks, a multimedia artist from Louisville, uses recycled materials fused with hand-built polymer clay figures in her work Lightning Buds. Through her art, Susan hopes to evoke “empathy through familiarity” by giving human faces to “bedazzled lightning bug figures.” Her goal is to raise awareness about the declining lightning bug populations and offer tips on how visitors can help.

Aojo by Simone Renae

Simone Renae, a multimedia artist from Louisville, uses projection mapping on a “walking” or floating ball to engage visitors in dialogue with the protagonist of her video. Aojo, which translates to “Evil Eye” in Spanish, invites the audience to follow the protagonist through a wild, exciting maze of obstacle courses that signify chaos brought on by an envious glance. Simone combines traditional hand-drawn animations with technology to create an immersive, surreal world.

Mother Nature by Dawn Bunch

Dawn Bunch, a mixed media artist from Louisville, KY, presents a figurative sculpture titled Mother Nature on the backside of Lake Nevin. Made from clay, recycled materials, and solar lights, this glowing, towering bust stands as a sentinel at the entry point of water flowing in and out of Lake Nevin.

For Realists by Field Guide For Dreamers

Field Guide For Dreamers is a multimedia collaborative duo consisting of Daniel Duncan and Brian Leuken of Louisville, KY. They present an immersive experience called For Realists, which challenges visitors to reflect on how “humans strive to replicate nature, forgetting they are themselves a part of it.” The installation includes a tunnel of mist on a forest path leading to a mesmerizing transparent chamber filled with fog and nature projections. This ambient sound, light, and art installation promises to refresh all the senses on a hot summer night. FGFD is a collaboration between artists and musicians Daniel Duncan and Brian Lueken. Their first album will be released in fall 2024, and CONNECT will be their first public performance as a duo.

Hierarchy by Gerard Kauffmann and Dan Kauffmann

Louisville artist duo Gerard and Dan Kauffmann present Hierarchy, an illuminated, multi-colored pyramidal sculpture constructed from stained glass, acrylics, acetate, wood, discarded plastic soda bottles, and other repurposed materials. According to the Kauffmanns, “Ribbons of transparent colors represent the earth, water, grasses, mountains, and sky. The artwork represents the human need to coalesce with nature.”

Rooted Treescape by Lizzie Hill

Lizzie Hill, an artist from Elizabeth, Indiana, creates large installations that mimic nature’s architecture using natural materials. Rooted Treescape, made of loosened coils of heavy twine, creates a whimsical journey through an overhanging structure that mimics the underground connections of trees. Rooted Treescape is located along the pathway between the Cypress Swamp and Little Elina on Lake Nevin Loop.

Walking with Meganeura by DJ and Eric Eichenberger

Creative mixed-media artist team DJ and Eric Eichenberger present Walking with Meganeura, a large incandescent, prehistoric dragonfly sculpture that floats on Lake Nevin, accompanied by a pulsing Meganeura chrysalis on the bank. According to the artists, Meganeura were dragonflies with huge wingspans that migrated through Kentucky 480 million years ago. This fantastic creation, made of single-use plastics, crushed glass, lights, and other repurposed materials, responds to its environment as it moves and pulses on the lake in sync with sound and wind.
