Christmas Tree Recycling

Recycle Your Live Christmas Tree at Bernheim

The holidays are behind us, and the decorations are starting to come down. If you are looking for a place to dispose of your live Christmas tree, you can give it a second life at Bernheim. Now through January 9, Bernheim is accepting real Christmas trees for recycling.

Donated trees can be used in lakes to support underwater fish habitat and also turned into mulch for established beds in the Arboretum.

“The mulch acts to support the soil microbiome with essential nutrients and organic material,” explained Drew Combs, Horticulture Manager at Bernheim Forest and Arboretum. “This will help to decompact our soil, increase nutrient availability, and improve drainage.”

Trees are being collected at the turnaround spot on the left as you near the front entrance gate at Bernheim. Cones and signage are set up to help guide you. Please use caution as you navigate the turnaround, and make sure you have removed the decorations and lights from your tree.

The annual Christmas tree recycling program plays an important role in reducing landfill waste and conserving natural resources. Recycling your tree is an easy way to contribute to a greener and healthier environment for all. It’s a simple yet impactful way to make a positive difference and give back to nature.
