2026 Environmental Artist in Residence, Anthony Corraro is a printmaker who creates beautiful ephemeral nature based prints out of dust gathered from the surrounding natural environment.
Through an extensive process of dyeing and refinement, Anthony transforms discarded remnants of those environments and their inhabitants into ornate works of art using CMYK screen printing techniques. A great deal of time and effort goes into the creation of each print, and nothing is used to adhere the dust to the surface. The fragility of each piece encourages an intimate experience where even the slightest breath could disturb the work.
Anthony arrived in late June and spent his first few weeks exploring the forest and listening to the stewards of the land. He’s concerned by Senate Bill 89 that passed in Kentucky’s Senate in 2025, transferring authority over state waterways to the federal government; and has spent time at Bernheim speaking with staff experts about how that law and other legislation impacting conservation will affect Bernheim and the region.
He plans to create ephemeral prints using dust and mud from Bernheim to highlight themes such as filtration, sedimentation, and disintegration by introducing water to the work.
Anthony reflects on his time thus far:
Traversing the trails at Bernheim has been very meditative so far. During my time here, I have been given the opportunity to see the natural environment undergo subtle changes. Each day, I discover new natural pigments and become inspired by the slowly shifting environment where they are found.
It has been wonderful to have the time to immerse myself in the forest and absorb all that it has to offer. I am also very thankful for the opportunity to meet with the amazing people at Bernheim and get a more in-depth look at their conservation efforts. Altogether, there is a symbiosis of nature, conservation, and art which serves as a great inspiration to my own creative endeavors.

An Afternoon with Anthony
On Saturday, July 25, enjoy an afternoon learning about Anthony Corraro’s amazing screen prints. Anthony will present a lecture on his work in the Sassafras Room at the Visitor Center including a full live demonstration of his unique printmaking process.
Afterwards, visitors are invited to the Lakeside Studio on Lake Nevin to see the rest of Anthony’s art created using natural pigments sourced from Bernheim.

About the Artist-in-Residence
Anthony exhibits his work nationally, teaches at the Kansas City Art Institute, and just completed a residency for New Mexico Arts at the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center in New Mexico.
