In 2021, she served as a COLLIDER Artist-in-Residence with the Louisville Free Public Library, where she taught virtual workshops on book and zine making. Additionally, she has taught at various community art centers, including LVA and Preston Arts Center.

My time at Bernheim so far has been transformative. So rarely am I able to rest in a place long enough to get to know it. I take familiar paths yet see new things each time. So many small pleasures pop up throughout my days. I’ve deeply enjoyed learning the patterns of animals throughout the day and watching the light shift throughout the forest. I’m feeling inspired in unexpected ways and creatively renewed in a way I did not know I needed.”  – Claire Krüeger

During her time at Bernheim, Claire could often be seen with a sketchbook journal, drawing her observations. She then knitted and hand-stitched them into colorful pieces, which are framed using naturally sourced materials. As an expert in natural dye processes, Claire is currently working on a publication that will accompany her knitted project at Bernheim, allowing others to recreate her designs.

Stay tuned for details about Claire’s upcoming lecture and demonstration of her incredible dye process later this fall.

For over 40 years, Bernheim’s Artist in Residence program has attracted artists from around the world who seek to use Bernheim as their inspiration. This internationally renowned program annually awards artists the opportunity to live and create site-specific work inspired by their immersive experience in nature.
