About the Artist
Paul Fields was a celebrated Louisville sculptor whose career spanned more than three decades and whose work can be found in public and private collections across the United States and in Italy, Spain, England, and France. He studied sculpture at the University of Louisville and in Pietrasanta, Italy, creating smooth, curvaceous forms in stone, wood, and bronze that invite tactile engagement. Fields was Bernheim’s first unofficial Artist in Residence in the 1980s, spending five years on-site and creating Snail, the forest’s first contemporary art installation. His legacy at Bernheim also includes Blossom, donated in 2003, which remains a lasting testament to his influence on artists, the arts community, and the landscape he loved.
