Expressive Art

Nocturnal

About the Artist

La Vispera, an art collective comprised of Kelly Jimenez and Alejandro Franco, two Colombian artists now based in Pittsburgh, whose primary discipline is the use of discarded materials to create highly crafted works of art. Their work confronts the world’s reckless creation of plastic using fossil fuels, a significant portion of our oil supply, and the thoughtless way we throw away this environmentally damaging material by turning it into beautiful stained glass-inspired pieces of art.

La Vispera (Pittsburgh, PA)
2023 Environmental Artist in Residence
Materials: Paper, single-use plastics, epoxy, glue

Nocturnal captures the hidden life of Bernheim after dark, honoring the creatures that emerge when humans retreat. Inspired by the landscapes around Lake Nevin, La Vispera crafted stained-glass-like scenes from repurposed single-use plastics, bright packaging transformed into art. The piece invites reflection on the beauty of the night and the environmental impact of plastic waste.

Location: North end of the Lake Nevin Loop.
