Honoring our "Roots" at Bernheim

We’re excited to announce a new one of a kind experience at Bernheim on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. – Honoring our “Roots.” This warming experience will honor our roots in the land with a daffodil planting celebration. Share in the harvest of Berheim’s Edible Garden at Isaac’s Café, reflect and prepare for the coming winter months and plant your thoughts and reflections along with planting your own daffodil bulb in anticipation of Spring! Fall may appear to be an odd time to think about patches of golden daffodils, but perhaps it’s the perfect time.

Just like a daffodil bulb needs the long, dark and cold months of winter, nestled in the nourishing soil, we too need time to slow down, reflect and take nourishment from the bounty of the land and the support of friends and family. As the leaves change and let go of the branches, float to the ground to nurture the soil, perhaps we too can change, let go and nurture ourselves. A daffodil bulb must spend the cold winter, tucked into the soil, waiting for the earth to thaw, then push its way to the sunlight before it can bloom. Slowing down, reflecting and drawing strength from our surroundings is a necessity not only for daffodil bulbs, but for us as well. Imagine a piping hot bowl of garden goodness in the form of root soup made from sweet potatoes, ginger, garlic, carrots, winter squash and a hint of spice.

The bounty of Bernheim’s Edible Garden, transformed by the staff of Isaac’s Café will no doubt nourish your body as you reflect on the richness of the land. Space is limited, so make your reservation early, by calling (502) 955-8512.

-Kathy Hart, Visitor Services Assistant Manager
