Join us for another up-close and personal experience with the creatures of the night, guided by Volunteer Naturalists and special guest Kevin Wiener of All Bugs Go to Kevin.

During this after-hours adventure, we’re focusing on moths! Closely related to butterflies, these scaly-winged insects are in the order Lepidoptera and serve as a beautiful reminder that the forest doesn’t go to sleep when the sun goes down. In fact, the party is just getting started!

Show up in your best moth costume and be prepared for an evening full of fun! You’ll enjoy moth-themed arts and crafts for the young (and young at heart!) as well as a scientific deep-dive and discovery stations detailing just what makes these animals so special.

After darkness falls, witness the magic as moths, as well as myriad of other bugs and insects, are drawn into UV-illuminated sheets for our observation!  In addition, you can participate in our dedicated iNaturalist project to record the wide diversity of species we might encounter!

Far from being “less glamorous” butterflies, moths have their own quiet beauty and a remarkable set of adaptations that help them thrive in essential ecological roles. This hands-on citizen science adventure will also likely reveal a variety of other creatures, large and small, along the way.
