Seeds for Urban Play Conference


National speakers and workshops will address equitable access to safe and quality outdoor free play to support the health and wellbeing of all children.  Dr. Harrison Pinkney, of Clemson University, Courtney Gardner and Ben Dalbey, of Free for All Baltimore, will present, as well as others, with a focus on providing an array of play experiences for children of color, the role of gendered differences and identify formation through play, connecting black youth to natural settings and implications for policies, cultural competencies and training.

Kristen Williams, executive director of Play Cousins Collective (PCC), will discuss the landscape of play for African-American children in Louisville and the partnered efforts of PCC and the Children at Play Network to support free play opportunities and expand the language of play in community. Play Cousins Collective is a non-profit organization providing children’s programming, family engagement and community resources to empower African-American families to improve outcomes for young children.

This conference is intended for stakeholders in community-based organizations, parks and recreation, youth programming, healthcare, education, early childhood, public safety, urban planning and design, landscape architects as well as parents, residents and advocates for children, play and nature.

Registration Fees are offered on a sliding scale: $0 – $5 – $10 – $25 – $50. Please choose as you are able to pay or attend for free.
