SOLD OUT Firefly Fridays

June 23, 2023 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm EDT

If you grew up in Kentucky or most anywhere in the middle to southeastern U.S., watching, catching, and releasing fireflies on warm summer nights may be a childhood memory. If so, you were likely spellbound by their mysterious light flashing and hovering as they seemed to rise and float over the ground.

The month of June is a peak performance month for many species of fireflies and Bernheim provides a protective habitat for enjoying this annual lightshow.

Join Bernheim Naturalists for this opportunity to make new memories with your family while learning more about these mysterious and mesmerizing creatures.

Last year we encountered the mystery and rare blue ghost firefly, Phausis reticulata, with its amazing, unusual continuous glowing display. We can’t guarantee that we will find them again, but we will have beautiful displays of many species of fireflies and enjoy the hunt. Volunteer Naturalist, Bill Napper who first alerted us to the presence of the blue ghost at Bernheim, says that we have the best chance of encountering them on the second Friday of the month.

Bernheim members $10; non-members $15
