Nature (+) Cyanotype with 2026 Regional Artist in Residence, Marilee Salvator

June 28 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Blue-1 by Marilee Salvator, an example of Cyanotype

Led by 2026 Regional Artist in Residence, Marilee Salvator, enjoy an artsy afternoon of creating beautiful botanical cyanotypes, or sun prints, using flowers, leaves and other natural objects found at Bernheim.

In 1843 pioneer photographer, Anna Atkins, produced the first photographic botany book using the magic of cyanotypes, or sun prints. Cyanotypes produce brilliant deep blue images from the chemical reaction of sun or UV light with an iron salt solution on paper. The process was later used to make architectural and other technical photocopies, or what we know as “blueprints.”

All Nature (+) classes include a short interpretive stroll around an area of Bernheim related to the subject matter, with a naturalist prior to sitting down to create.
