This 4th of July weekend has some great family programs at Bernheim. ECO Kids Discovery Day and the Pollywog Play Party will make for a fun filled Saturday but the month of July also offers great opportunities to explore Bernheim through a night time lens. Our night programs add mystery and magic to make memorable experiences. Exploring the forest at night provides opportunities to observe and celebrate seasonal and nocturnal changes in our surroundings. From Full Moon Hikes to our newest Twilight Tours, there is a program for everyone to enjoy.
On Saturday, July 12 from 9 – 11 p.m. across from the Garden Pavilion, Bernheim will host the Full “Thunder” Moon Hike. Full moon programs weave together stories about the night ecology, moon lore, history and nature. Night hikes keep to open trails and roads so that travel without flashlights is possible. Non-members $12; Members $10.
On Friday, July 18 from 8:45 – 11:15 p.m. Bernheim’s will host a Twilight Tour, our newest night program. Many of Bernheim’s creatures become active in the twilight world between sunset and dusk. Journey through Bernheim with a trained naturalists and encounter these crepuscular creatures who have adapted to the dark side of day. Bring a flashlight, camera, binoculars and an adventurous spirit…nature will provide the wonders. Non-members $25; Members $20.
On Saturday, July 19 from 9:30 p.m. – 12 a.m. visitors are invited to the Summer Star Stories and Sky Night Watch. Participants will observe the evening sights and sounds of summer with Bernheim’s knowledgeable and engaging Volunteer Naturalists. Summer Star Stories happen rain or shine.
New this summer is a Laser Guided Star Tour! Participants will Explore the Heavens from 9:30 p.m. – 12 a.m. on Friday, July 25. Each night, fascinating stories are playing out across the heavens. Come watch constellations of scorpions, bears, dolphins and mythological characters come alive as an interpreter shares ancient dreams and laser beams in Bernheim’s night sky.
