CONNECT 2017 Recap – Oh What a Night

Hot air balloon glow illuminated an otherwise dark corner of Lake Nevin

CONNECT celebrates the intersection of art, science and nature around beautiful Lake Nevin.  This ever changing event always features hands-on experiences for adults and families as well as spontaneous art displays connecting people to nature.  Our ninth CONNECT delighted audiences with live musical performances by The Family Secret, Joan Shelley and Plum Hokum.

The art component of CONNECT did not disappoint either!  Artists were invited to create a work or installation inviting visitors to engage and/or participate with their piece.  Creativity is key as there is little access to electrical outlets.  Those who ventured around Lake Nevin after the sunset at approximately 8:29 p.m. experienced a visual treat.

Peyton Hoge

Louisville artist Peyton Hoge enamored audiences with his pyro powered kinetic sculpture.  Artist and WKU professor, Joon Sung projected abstract video pieces at the Garden Pavilion. Bowling Green based visual artist Beth Reitmeyer transformed the quiet garden into a Glowing Wonderland full of battery operated and powered geodes complete with soundtrack.  Fire jugglers rounded out the talent and amazed us all by creating visual effects with large flames.

The Lake Nevin Loop allowed visitors to engage each of these works up close and from a distance.  The dark night sky added mystery and magic to each of these encounters.  Special thanks to all artists who made the walk around Lake Nevin a unique and unforgettable element at CONNECT 2017!!
