BugFest

It’s back!

Bernheim’s Bugfest complete with a bug-theme concert, insect Safaris, the Bug Zoo, Idlewild Butterfly & Insectarium, Spider Tent, bug crafts, and the BUG PARADE and more! Schedule below.

Wildlife Conservation Photographer Carla Rhodes will be a featured guest at this year’s BugFest! Meet the artist, see the forest through her eyes, and hear about her adventures as Bernheim’s first Environmental Artist in Residence!

Free for members; $10 per car admission fee for non-members.

 

Bugfest 2022 Schedule

10- 10:30 a.m. – Opening Program Bug-in-a-Bag This short family-friendly program provides an engaging experience designed to get you and your family “insect-a-cited.”
Location: strawbale area near the Visitor Center boardwalk.

10:30 – 11 a.m. – Bugs in Books Storytime Join Volunteer Naturalist, Pam Johns for some delightful readings from bug related books.

10:30 a.m. – Bug Safari Join Bernheim’s Kelly Vowels and Volunteer Naturalists.
Location: Meet at The Butterfly in front of the Visitor Center

10:30 a.m.  – 2 p.m. – Bug Costume Loan Tent If you didn’t bring your own bug costume, Bernheim’s Volunteer Naturalists have bug costumes for you to borrow for the Bug Parade.
Location: strawbale area near the Visitor Center boardwalk.

11 a.m.  – 2:30 p.m.- Insect-a-cited craft area –Make butterflies out of recycled paper, insect headbands or bug-themed masks so you’ll be ready for Bernheim’s Bug Parade.
Location: Tent and picnic tables near the Visitor Center boardwalk.

11 a.m.  – 2 p.m.Wee Folks Bug Investigations
Location: Near the Visitor Center boardwalk

11:15 a.m. Bug Safari – Join Kelly Vowels and Bernheim Volunteer Naturalists
Location: Meet at The Butterfly in the front of the Visitor Center

Noon – Monarch Tagging with Kelly Vowels and Volunteer Naturalists
Location: Meet at The Butterfly in front of the Visitor Center

Noon– 4 p.m. – The Butterfly Lady of Hidden Hill Farm, Meet Susan Loya, monarch enthusiast and learn about her delight in raising these remarkable creatures.
Location: Near the Insect Zoo area in front of the Visitor Center

12:30 – 4 p.m. Idlewild Butterfly Farm and Insectarium The good folks at Idlewild always bring interesting live bugs, some of them rather LARGE.
Location: Tent near the Insect Zoo area in front of the Visitor Center

12:30 p.m. – Bug-themed Concert with Mr. Dan (Pascucci). Dan’s fun songs will make you want to do the Buggy Boogie.
Location: Straw bale area near the Visitor Center boardwalk.

1 – 4 p.m. – Insect Zoo, Spider Tent, Discovery Stations, Monarchs and More!                                                                                                                                    This year we are once again honored to have insect enthusiasts, Lauren and her husband Tony Kramer from Cincinnati on hand for Bugfest, Lauren will help in the Insect Zoo and be bringing some cool bug-themed costumes and young son, Urban.
Location: In front of the Visitor Center

1 – 4 p.m. – What’s in the Water Tony Kramer and educator representing ORSANCO/FORE will have a tent set up to demonstrate about how micro creatures help determine the quality of pond water.  FORE is the Foundation for Ohio River Education.
Location: tent front of the Visitor Center near the Insect Zoo.

 1:30 – 2 p.m. – Bug Parade Lineup If you want to be in the Bug Parade be sure to get in the line-up.

2:00 – 2:30 p.m. – Bug Parade
