Beyond Our Borders

In addition to the 90-year transformation of our forest, we’ve long recognized that our work to connect people with nature extends beyond the geographic boundaries of this vast forest. That’s why we deliberately seek out opportunities to bring the stories and lessons of nature to people throughout our region and beyond.

There are countless examples including the new Restoring Natures Classroom program at Jefferson County Public Schools’ Hazelwood Elementary.

Bernheim’s Children at Play Network is growing a community of free play champions throughout the region – helping children benefit from unstructured free play in nature. Together we are helping them imagine, create, explore and learn in a way that only nature can provide, and we’re building the next generation of environmental stewards.

Our work beyond our borders is also improving the environment. From tree plantings to green roofs, we are working to reduce the effects of the urban heat island and make the air we breathe cleaner.

None of this work would be possible without great community partners like the PNC Foundation, the Greater Louisville Chapter of the Sierra Club, the Brown Forman Foundation and countless others including our generous donors. Our thanks to all who help support this valuable outreach.

We are excited to see what the next 90 years has in store.
