Bernheim Pollinators: The Eastern Yellowjacket (a haiku)

A yellowjacket
Vespula maculifrons
Black and yellow wasp

Yellow and black head
Most common of the species
Smaller than most wasps

Nests built underground
Living in colonies of
Hundreds or thousands

Be careful by nests
They will protect like Police
Watch out for the Sting

Sting for protection
Over and over again
Won’t die like a bee

Are they a pest? No
They actually kill pests
Are they a pain? Yes
