Bernheim Needs Your Voice!

The public comment period for LG&E’s proposed natural gas pipeline is now open until December 18, 2020!

Bernheim Forest is still under threat from condemnation of our natural land and construction of the proposed LG&E natural gas pipeline. After more than 90 years of land protection and nature-based education, we still need your support to defend our forests, streams, springs, and wildlife from the proposed LG&E pipeline that would break our conservation easement to cut through our Cedar Creek Wildlife Corridor.

The KY Division of Water must approve any construction or other activity in or along a stream that could in any way obstruct waterways or adversely impact water quality. The proposed LG&E natural gas pipeline as stated in this Water Quality Certification would create substantial harm to water at Bernheim, of which may include:

-Hydrostatic wastewater discharge location on Bernheim that may release pollutants into streams and groundwater

-Landslide risk and slope destabilization

-Trenching and blasting of rock and soil

-Permanent clearing of forests

-Impacts to sensitive aquatic and terrestrial species

Because of these serious and permanent impacts to the Cedar Creek watershed, the issuance of a 401 Water Quality Certification (WQC) from the KY Division of Water will be required.

If you feel strongly about supporting Bernheim by opposing the WQC, please send your comments to the KY Division of Water for the following WQ 401 Certifications application.

Copies of the application and other support material may be viewed HERE

Comments must be received by the Kentucky Division of Water no later than 4:30 PM on December 18, 2020. Comments may be submitted by e-mail.

Written comments may be submitted to

Thank you for your support.
